I sat in the passenger seat of my Dad’s Ford F150. The windows were down, the cool air breezing through my hair. The radio emitting classic rock, it was a fine time. The yellow light turned to; as a result, the subtle squeak of the brakes stopped us. In general passing my eyes looked to the right, as I saw the car in the lane over speed off. The one thing that I noticed most about this car was the bumper sticker. "War is not the answer."
I had seen some other bumper stickers like that before, but I reached my breaking point with this one. What does this woman know about War? People like that driver caused the living hell for Veterans freshly back from Vietnam. It’s people like her who don’t care about young men and women who are laying down their lives everyday. If people like the driver were in charge of our country, than we would still be English citizens. If War is not the answer, than Hitler’s successors would still be committing genocide all over the world. If War is not the answer, than our country would be in ruin. I despise people who say just pull everyone out of the Middle East. Oh yeah, great plan Mr. Senator. We’ve just pissed off every terrorist there could possibly be in the Middle East. I guess we can just take all of our soldiers out and watch the missiles come. A bunch of terrorists running around in the Middle East uncontrolled is beneficial for nobody. I am not saying we must wage War everywhere, but there are instances when we must. War can be an answer. War can be a solution. War will and has protected us. That lady sitting comfortably in her car could not have done that with out the soldiers who lay down their lives. Freedom is never Free.
(Note 11/24/09: I do not pretend to be a true scholar. I just write what I think is write, as I am sure many people can disagree, as I am sure there are people more versed in history who could disown me.)

Freedom is the greatest risk.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, I'm slightly disappointed that a very great man died forty-six years ago today and this wasn't about that, but, hey. I'll live. (:
oh hey. who are you liberatingstrife
ReplyDeleteNow I'm going to start off with making friends before you start defending yourself, because judging simply by the way you write, this is going to happen. You have done a very good job in structuring your post in a way that eases a person into your main overall message.
ReplyDeleteHowever, this is where we have to part ways. You smack the reader in the face with your bias in literally the first sentence. And then subsequently beat us with it in the following paragraph. Your extreme prejudice make it difficult not to think that this is pure conservative propaganda.
I ask you this. What do you know about war? Now I'm going to take a trick from your book and assume that (I am being hypocritical here and matching your prejudice, just in an opposite fashion) your father, the owner of the American car, probably sharing your (exact) same political views has at some point been involved with some part of the army. And because of his connection, you claim that you obviously know war in a way that this random woman you know absolutely nothing about doesn't.
Now, I am not criticizing soldiers. Not at all. God bless their souls, and watch over their shoulders. War however is not an answer for every question. People get along every day without fighting. Countries can get along without fighting. And the United States doesn't have to shove a bullet down the throat of anyone who gets in their way.
Yes, I agree, we can't pull out. We'd be pretty soundly screwed unless we change things. So when fighting has actually started, 'Continued War' becomes the answer.
Now, before I go on, I'm going to ask you to look for chinks in my argument, because there are some, I just don't care enough to fix them.
Furthermore you make the wonderful reference about us still being English Citizens, while at the same time supporting the war in the middle east. Would you be surprised if they were one and the same?
Yes, they indeed are. Baby USA was made to be a cash cow of raw materials. Just like the middle east and oil! What caused the red coats to get all up in our business? Terrorists! Yes, the Boston tea party is an act of terrorism. Yes, the hanging of British soldiers is an act of terrorism.
Now here's just a funny historical Irony. King George III was on the wrong end of this whole Revolution debacle. President George Jr. (as in Bush. Too bad he wasn't the third) really agitated the whole middle east menagerie. Now that's just a lose connection, but I find it funny.
Cheers.
Another good post. Not sure bout the whole "I know what this person is about by looking at her" thing, though. Kinda difficult to presume so much by looking at someone. Interesting article though. :)
